New fare gates installed at Yaletown–Roundhouse Station to improve customer flow and accessibility

Station upgrades will help support growing customer demand during large events

Customers move through newly installed fare gates at Yaletown–Roundhouse Station on the Canada Line, improving accessibility and customer flow during busy periods and major events.

VANCOUVER, BC – TransLink is opening two new fare gates at Yaletown–Roundhouse Station to improve accessibility, customer flow, and congestion during peak times and major events. The upgrades increase the total number of fare gates from three to five and add a second accessible fare gate to help customers move through the station more quickly and efficiently.

Yaletown–Roundhouse Station recorded more than three million boardings in 2025, making it the fifth busiest station on the Canada Line and a key access point during large events at Rogers Arena and BC Place.

The station’s fare gates were handling significantly more customers per gate than other stations in times of high demand. During the Taylor Swift Eras Tour weekend in December 2024, the Waterfront Station fare gates averaged about 3,800 taps per gate each day — across seven fare gates. By comparison, Yaletown–Roundhouse Station averaged nearly 8,000 taps per gate each day across only three fare gates, often resulting in customer congestion and delays.

With FIFA World Cup 2026 Vancouver™ opening this month, the upgrades were completed ahead of the tournament to help support increased customer demand in the area. While Yaletown–Roundhouse Station will not provide pedestrian access to BC Place Vancouver during local match days due to security measures around the stadium, the station will remain open throughout the tournament.

The new accessible gate also includes Universal Fare Gate Access Program (UFGAP) compatibility, giving customers who are unable to tap a card hands-free access through the fare gates.
